Award-Winning Architect and Designer/TV Host Latest Board Members

Two Long Island residents widely recognized for their design expertise are helping the Long Island Children’s Museum construct a strong future. Home improvement expert and TV host Leslie Segrete and Marc B. Spector, AIA, NCARB, a principal with the international master planning and design firm Spector Group, have been named to the Museum’s board of trustees. The announcement was made by LICM board co-chairs Robert S. Lemle and Scott Rechler.

Segrete and Spector immediately demonstrated their commitment to the Museum’s stability and growth; throwing their support behind LICM’s annual fundraiser, Cupcakes & Cocktails. The event, held June 4, raised more than $750,000 to support the Museum’s exhibit development and educational and cultural programs and performances for Long Island families.

“As parents and concerned community members, Leslie and Marc understand the importance of early learning and support LICM’s commitment to providing children with the opportunity for hands-on discovery,” noted LICM Executive Director Suzanne LeBlanc. “They will be strong additions to the Museum’s dynamic board.”

Leslie Segrete has shared her design skills for the past six years across a variety of mediums. Her ability to turn design dreams into reality have been showcased on popular television series "Trading Spaces," "While You Were Out,” and “The Ugliest House on the Block, as co-host of The Money Pit Radio Show and as author of "My Home, My Money Pit, Your Guide to Every Home Improvement Adventure." On June 19, A&E's new series $100 Makeover will premiere with Segrete as co-host. She lives with her husband Edward Carbonell and son in Garden City.

Marc B. Spector, AIA, NCARB, has played a key role in advancing one of the region’s largest and most prolific architectural and planning firms. The Spector Group, is recognized nationally and internationally for its design of high technology, sustainable and highly cost-effective projects. Most recently, Spector spearheaded the firm’s global expansion with the opening of the Spector Groups Middle Eastern office in Abu Dhabi. A Registered Architect in New York, New Jersey, Virgina, Utah, Nevada, Connecticut and Florida, he has successfully individualized his unique design approach between corporate, institutional, retail, residential, interior architecture and macro and micro master planning. Marc and Karen Spector reside in East Hills with their children.

Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) invites visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to explore freely, discover their passions, and appreciate the communities and world we share. Through interdisciplinary activities, children and adults can share in the excitement of the learning process. The museum is designed for infants through 12 and their grown-ups. LICM is a private, not-for-profit institution chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
