Jan 7, 2008 - Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves Exhibit Opens

Starting January 26, Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) welcomes its newest traveling exhibit: Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves. The 1,500 square foot exhibit, designed to unite science and art, offers a playful, innovative approach to science & sound, with a multi-sensory exploration that will thrill visitors of all ages. The Making Waves exhibit will continue through May 4. In New York, Blue Man Group also performs its ongoing theatrical production from Off-Broadway’s Astor Place Theatre.

Throughout the interactive exhibit, Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves, participants can see, feel, hear, and create sound in the fun-filled signature Blue Man style. Within the visually luminescent atmosphere, the exhibit includes an array of Blue Man Group instruments encouraging exploration and discovery. The sounds emitted from the instruments are as unique as their names: Slide-u-lum, Build-u-lum, Sand Drum and Theremin. The Making Waves experience culminates in the JBL®-equipped Surround Sound Theater, where engineering genius combines with a musical piece by Blue Man Group illustrating the wonder and joy of sound.

Co-founder of Blue Man Group, Chris Wink says, "New York is where we began our artistic journey with the Blue Man character being welcomed by individuals of all kinds. With the Making Waves exhibit opening at Long Island Children’s Museum, we hope to return that spirit of encouragement and create an environment that welcomes creative learning for children and their parents."

The exhibit encourages learning and development through multi-sensory engagement and interactive entertainment. Through a series of joyously noisy experiments, kids can discover how sound is made, construct dynamic instruments with PVC piping, and learn about musical pitch, rhythm, and melody.

“We are delighted to offer visitors from across the metropolitan region this amazing experience,” said LICM Executive Director Suzanne LeBlanc. “The Blue Man Group’s reputation for creativity and fun is fully in evidence in this exhibit and provides an unforgettable opportunity for children and adults to learn about science, sound, and senses. Making Waves is a wonderful compliment to the museum’s mUSic exhibit gallery.”

Blue Man Group ~ Making Waves is a national touring exhibit created by the Boston Children’s Museum, Blue Man Group, and the sound engineers at JBL®. Long Island Children’s Museum is the fifth stop on the tour and its only NY-metropolitan area stop. Local promotional support for the exhibit is provided by Southwest Airlines.  The touring exhibition launched at the Boston Children’s Museum in fall 2006, and has since visited Chicago, Denver, and Davie (FL). Continuing through 2011, Making Waves will be presented at museums in Bainbridge Island, WA; Miami, Florida; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Bettendorf, Iowa; Greenville, South Carolina; and other markets still to be announced.
