Executive Director Suzanne LeBlanc has announced two recent staff appointments at the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM):

Aimee Terzulli has been named LICM Director of Programs. In this position, she will create and implement developmentally appropriate programs for visitors that complement the Museum’s exhibitions, performances and special events. In addition to managing the museum’s educational programming efforts, she will develop and oversee content for the museum’s professional development programs for teachers, conduct staff training in conjunction with new exhibit content, and oversee program quality. Terzulli was promoted from the position of LICM Outreach Program Manager, a position she has held since 1993. The Freeport resident has a bachelor’s degree in Art Education from Long Island University, as well as a New York State Teaching certificate (K–12).

Monique van Putten has been appointed the Children’s Museum’s new Early Childhood Manager. In this position, van Putten will be responsible for content and management of the museum’s kindergarten readiness program for families with limited English proficiency (Juntos al Kinder/Together to Kindergarten) and its daily programs and galleries addressing the developmental needs of children under five. Van Putten will also oversee the museum’s Parenting workshops, as well as assist with professional development offerings for teachers and caregivers of young children. She comes to the museum with an impressive background in early childhood education, informal and art education and educational administration. Her previous positions include Early Childhood Program Director at the Harlem Children’s Zone and art instructor and program coordinator in the both the New York Public School system and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Von Putten earned a Master’s degree from Manhattanville College and is a New York State Certified Teacher.

“As a leading educational resource for families and educators, it is vital that the Children’s Museum’s programs reflect the learning standards and dialogue that are taking place in formal learning settings,” said LICM Executive Director Suzanne LeBlanc. “As certified teachers with extensive background in both formal and informal learning environments, Aimee Terzulli and Monique van Putten will ensure that the museum’s educational programs prepare children to make “real world” connections with what they are and will learn in the classroom.”

Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) invites visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to explore freely, discover their passions, and appreciate the communities and world we share. Through interdisciplinary activities, children and adults can share in the excitement of the learning process. The museum is designed for infants through 12 and their grown-ups. LICM is a private, not-for-profit institution chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.

Museum Location/Hours: 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530 (on Museum Row near the Nassau Coliseum). Open Tuesday through Sunday (and most holidays), 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed Monday.
